CBT-based talking therapies, mindfulness and homeopathy can all help to reduce the stresses and tension of our daily lives and improve our sense of wellbeing. There are many ways to deal with the problems that come up in everyday living and discovering the resources that can help us to manage emotional difficulties such as stress, depression, anxiety, grief and low self-esteem is frequently life-changing.
You may have been thinking that there's nothing that you can do to change how you feel, however it only takes a small step to move forward and choose a path that helps you to live life to the full. The first step on the path is recognising that there is a problem and that you want to do something about it. Choosing a therapy is the next step.
CBT-based Talking Therapies
Talking therapies that are based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) focus on learning how external events can affect our mood, thoughts and behaviour, and also on how our thoughts affect our moods. This type of therapy is aimed at asking us to notice how we view the life events that occur and how we manage their effect on us. What may seem like a small problem to one person might feel like a major disaster to another, and becoming more aware of our individual thoughts and behaviour can dramatically help to improve our mood and wellbeing.
Using various techniques we look at hands on practical ways of making helpful changes and it can be more helpful to think of CBT-based talking therapy as emotional and psychological coaching rather than counselling. Between our sessions you will have the opportunity to put into practice techniques that have been introduced to you during the consultations.
Mindfulness and Simple Meditation
In recent years dozens of studies have demonstrated that mindfulness can reduce stress, chronic pain, anxiety and depression. Mindfulness can also be a ready tool to improve everyday wellbeing and through mindful awareness training and meditation practices we can increase our capacity to handle life's difficulties. Bringing mindfulness into our lives is a skill that can be cultivated by practising the techniques that you will learn in our sessions.
In everyday life we can find ourselves on autopilot, not aware of how we are feeling in the present moment. Mindfulness can help to reduce our natural tendencies to get caught up in thinking about what has happened in the past and what might happen in the future, instead focusing on what is actually happening right now and so being able to appreciate the present.
Group training courses in mindfulness have been running in Lancashire for twenty years or more but not everyone feels at ease in a group situation. I offer one-to-one training in mindfulness meditation and mindfulness practices which enables us to practise in a space that is comfortable for the individual.
Homeopathy is one of the most popular complementary and holistic therapies currently available in the UK, used by 15% of the population, and is frequently sought by people with emotional and psychological difficulties, as well as those who are looking for a gentle alternative to drugs. A course of homeopathic treatment gives you the opportunity to talk freely about yourself, your thoughts, feelings and moods, your lifestyle and your physical health.
Homeopathy treats the individual, not the diagnosis, opening the door to a gentle treatment that can bring balance and clarity and addressing the root cause of the symptoms that you are experiencing. Homeopathic remedies are gentle in action and can be complementary to both conventional medicine and other complementary therapies, working in harmony with any other medicines that may already be taking.
Homeopathic treatment starts with an initial lengthy meeting which offers you the opportunity to talk freely about yourself and your problems after which you will be prescribed a homeopathic remedy, made from a natural substance such as a plant or mineral. At the follow up appointments we discuss and monitor your progress and further prescriptions are made when necessary.
